Vienna  – the capital city of Austria and one of Europe’s top city tourism destinations.

Located on the banks of the river Danube, this beautiful city is famous for its imperial heritage having 27 palaces including the ‘must sees’, Schönbrunn and Hofburg, and more than 150 others stately residences.

The historic city centre is a UNESCO world cultural site and over 45% of the city’s area is gardens, parks, forests and woodland.

Vienna has it all.  Culture, art, architecture and music, being  recognised worldwide for the music of Mozart and Strauss; every night music fans are treated to live classical music.

Other ‘Must sees’ include:

  • Emperor Franz Josef’s Ringstrasse Boulevard
  • St.Stephen’s Cathedral
  • The State Opera House
  • Burgberg Theatre

Take a break at one of Vienna’s coffee houses and pastry shops and perhaps indulge in some Sachertorte then later have a meal at one of the city’s many restaurants and sample local food and wine.

There is so much to see and experience in Vienna at different times of the year too.  For example, at certain times during winter you can visit the Christmas Markets, go to a ball or visit Vienna Ice World where City Hall Square is transformed into an Ice Rink.

Autumn is good for walking and hiking with September and October being high season for Viennese wine, so why not end your walk in a wine tavern with some hearty food.

In spring you can enjoy one of the 280 imperial parks such as the Volksgarten on the Ringstrasse.  You can also visit the local markets, Naschmarkt, is the best known with around 120 stands.

Vienna has more than 50 kilometres of beach, so these sand and gravel beaches, pools and Danube Island are great places to be in summer, you can also go to an open-air concert or movie.

The closest airport is Vienna International Airport, located 12 miles from the city centre.  There are scheduled flights and charter (at certain times of the year) from Leeds and Manchester.

Vienna holds endless possibilities; with fabulous 5 * luxury hotels and boutique hotels, homely Pensionen (guesthouses), small hotels and apartments to choose for your stay.
